Graduates

The PhD program at UCLA PBPL has produced a large under of graduates in its initial 13 years of existence. Here is a glance at our graduates, and where their professional lives have taken them:

• David Robin (Pellegrini). Went to LBNL after PhD to work on the Berkely ALS. Is now Accelerator Physics Group Leader at ALS, and works on nonlinear dynamics of rings among other topics.
• Spencer Hartman (Pellegrini). Initially post-doc'ed at SLAC, then moved on to industry. Now working at JT3 corporation.
• Gil Travish (Rosenzweig). Initially worked under INFN fellowship in Italy; returned to USA to join path-breaking LEUTL SASE FEL experiment at Argonne. Formed technology startup before returning as a senior scientist at UCLA PBPL.
• Andrei Terebilo (Pellegrini). Went to SLAC Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory after graduation; is now a scientist involved in the commissioning of the SPEAR 3 light source.
• Nick Barov (Rosenzweig). Performed a post-doc with PBPL before moving to Northern Illinois University as a research scientist with the NICADD center. Works in plasma wakefield acceleration, and continues collaboration with UCLA PBPL in this area.
• Mark Hogan (Pellegrini). Post-doc'ed at SLAC, and joined the Accelerator Research and Development B group as scientist. Now works on ultra-high field, high energy plasma wakefields with electron and positron beams.
• Eric Colby (Rosenzweig). Post-doc'ed at FNAL on FNPL photoinjector. Now is Panofsky Fellow at SLAC, working mainly on laser acceleration techniques; is a collaborator with PBPL on the ORION project.
• Aaron Tremaine (Rosenzweig). Performed post-doc at BNL for UCLA on the VISA SASE FEL experiment. Now leads the PLEIADES accelerator group at LLNL, working (in collaboration with PBPL) on the most intense inverse Compton scattering source in existence.
• Xiadong Ding (Pellegrini). Has taken up medical physics as a builder of linear accelerators, with Siemens Medical.
• Scott Anderson (Rosenzweig). Now working as a post-doc on the PLEIADES experiment at LLNL, with Aaron Tremaine and in collaboration with PBPL.
• Alex Murokh (Rosenzweig). Now a post-doc working on BNL ATF projects VISA II SASE FEL and ATF compressor, for UCLA PBPL. Also developing advanced beam diagnostics for ultra-fast beam measurements.
