Pedro Frigola likes to make outlandish claims. Each week the most outrageous and trivial claims he states will be posted. A red dot will indicate that this claim is false; a green dot will indicate that the claim is true.

"Ross Perot was the first man to fly around the world in a helicopter." Ross Perot Jr. (Ross Perot's son) was actually the first.
"China has a species of bear called 'Spectacle Bears'." "Spectacled Bears" are located in the Andes.
"Russia has one of the two highest Grizzly Bear populations in the world." The two highest Grizzly Bear populations are in Canada and the U.S.
"Glacier National Park has the highest Grizzly Bear Population Density in the world." Kodiak has the highest Grizzly Bear population density.
"The plaid fabric pattern was designed to ward off mosquitos, by confusing mosquitos who always land on solid colors." Mosquitos can not recognize color.
"The difference in elevation between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans on either side of the Panama Canal is approximately 200 feet.." The difference is about 8 inches.
"Daylight Savings Time was invented in the 1970's as a result of a presidential decree to conserve energy during the oil crisis." Daylight Savings Time was first put into practice in Germany 1916 (1918 in U.S.).
"The smallest bird in the world is a species of hummingbird, Sun-Sun, that is indigenous to Cuba." Correct.
"Beetles have four (4) pairs of flying wings" Beetles have two (2) pairs of wings.
"The highest recorded temperature in the United States was 114 degrees Fahrenheit in Mercury, Nevada." The highest recorded temperature in the U.S. was 134 degrees Fahrenheit in Death Valley, California.
"The fastest running insect is the cockroach." The fastest running insect is the Australian tiger beetle.
"This is what I used to look like before I fell off the mountain" In his dreams!
"The mouth of a sea snake is too small to bite humans. Therefore they are completely harmless." Although their bites are rarely fatal, they are capable to bite a man on the thigh. The 2.5 - 4.5 mm fangs are long enough to penetrate the human skin and to inject deadly poison into the blood.
"The peak of Shimborosa (ecuador) is the furthest point from the center of earth" The difference is about 3 km compared with Mt. Everest.
"The Mt. Everest rises by about 1 inch a year due to tectonic plate motion" Using GPS no measurable change has occured over the last 4 years. However the peak shifts horizontally by about 2.4 inches/year towards the NE.
"San Francisco receives more rain annually than Seatlle." Not even close.
"I can solve Rubik's Cube in 2 minutes" After 12 minutes he gave up with a cube only slightly more ordered than the random distribution at the beginning.
"There aren't any moose in Sweden" Then why is the Swedish government putting up these signs?
"'Moose' is a Native American word." Origin of the word Moose is Eastern Abenaki.
"The highest peak in Cuba is at least 2000 meters higher than the highest peak in Florida." The highest peak in Cuba is 1975 meters; the highest peak in Florida is 105 meters. The difference is 1870 meters.
"The coldest recorded temperature in the US was in Mt. Washington, New Hampshire." The coldest temperature recorded in the US was in Alaska (-80 degrees F), in the contiguous states the lowest temperature was recorded in Rogers Pass, Montana (-70 degrees). In fact, 18 other states have recorded temperatures lower than the lowest temperature recorded in New Hampshire (-47 degreees).
"There aren't any badgers in Germany" It is time that Pedro is getting an encyclopedia about Europe's fauna (see moose claim above)
"Star-nosed Moles have no eyes." From natureinstitue.org: "Interestingly, the star-nosed mole's eyes are usually visible and its forepaws are proportionally not as large as in many other moles."
"I was only 50% wrong about the previous claim because I said cave salamanders AND star nose moles have no eyes." From Auburn academic science online: "Tennessee Cave Salamander: External gills; VERY SMALL EYES; lives in wet caves; body white or cloudy in appearance."
