PBPL Proudly Announces Graduation of PhD Student Matthew Thompson

(Los Angeles, CA, 04JUN04) The Particle Beam Physics Laboratory is proud to announce the graduation of Matthew "Matt" Thompson. Upon today's filling of his PhD dissertation, Matt completed the requirements for his doctoral degree in physics.

The Dissertation entitled, "Plasma Density Transition Trapping of Electrons in Plasma Wakefield Accelerators," covers the fascinating field of plasma based electron sources. The dissertation is now available for viewing on the group's document server.

Dr. Thompson joined PBPL in 1998 after earning an undergraduate degree in Physics from Stanford University and completing his graduate course work at UCLA. During his tenure at PBPL, Dr. Thompson worked on various aspects of photoinjector dynamics, longitudinal electron beam phase space manipulation, and magnet design before turning his attention to beam/plasma interactions.

The Particle Beam Physics Laboratory at the UCLA Department of Physics investigates beam physics, accelerators and attendant technologies.

Additional information on PBPL is available at the group web site: http://pbpl.physics.ucla.edu/
